Is the Frontier Airlines Go-Wild! Pass Worth it?

You may be wondering if an unlimited flight pass is too good to be true. The clear answer (if you ask this seasoned GoWild! traveler) is maybe. If that is not conclusive enough for you keep reading! Let’s examine the pros and cons of the GoWild! Pass in hopes that you can make an informed decision.

Firstly, I am not employed, endorsed, or paid in any way by Frontier Airlines or it’s affiliates. I have worked in my free time since the pass was announced to help foster a community online of like-minded travelers seeking to share their experiences with the unlimited flight pass and traveling on ULCC (Ultra-Low-Cost-Carrier) airlines in general. Below we will examine the perks and pitfalls of the pass, using the experiences of over 30,000 passholders and their contributions to a unique online community to help offer you some insight before enrolling in the GoWild! Pass program.

The Good

The GoWild! Pass can be an amazing investment for the right traveler. Let’s review what’s good about the program.

  • Flights truly are unlimited. If there is a seat available, you can book it! If you wanted to, you could take a flight over 300 days a year!
  • You have access to all of Frontier Airline’s domestic and international destinations. This includes the island of Puerto Rico as well as tropical destinations like Cancun, Montego Bay, and Sint Maarten!
  • The airfare is actually a penny. No gimmicks here! Though domestically you’ll pay a few different nominal taxes to the government, the airline only pockets a penny for you taking up empty seats.
  • The terms of the pass are clear upfront. Blackout dates are made available before purchase. Nobody is trying to mislead you before collecting your credit card information.
  • During off peak dates, you can book farther in advance, compounding your savings! Check out our article on advance booking promotions
  • You can use airline loyalty status benefits even on special fare tickets!

GoWild! Pricing can save you 90% or more on last minute tickets.

The Bad

There are some downsides to traveling on the GoWild! Pass.

  • Without doing thorough research, booking with the pass may seem cumbersome and you may be disappointed to find that seats are not available when you go to book.
  • This subscription service only entitles you to a ticket on the plane. It does not offer any add ons like seat selection, carry-on bags, or priority boarding.
  • You have to fly often to recoup the initial sign-up fee.
  • Frontier doesn’t service every route and every airport every day. Some smaller airports only see flights three days a week. Familiarize yourself with

The Ugly

These are just facts that I feel every potential customer should consider before purchasing.

  • ULCCs (including Frontier) will not accommodate you with a hotel if your travel plans are disrupted.
  • You may not be able to book a return flight at the same time as your outbound flight at the GoWild! Pass fare. Be prepared to extend your trip with little notice.
  • The pass is not usable on certain blackout dates, typically during peak travel periods (Think Spring break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas)

Ultimately, being successful with the GoWild! Pass means having flexibility to travel where seats are available on short notice. Being well informed and having tools available to you to maximize the value of your initial sign-up fee will enhance your experience by easing frustrations and helping you spend more time flying and less time worrying.
